Working as a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS for 20 years has enabled me to develop my skills supporting children with a range of communication needs.  I am committed to working in partnership with Parents/carers and professionals, leading a local team on the National Initiative ECAT (Every child a Talker) programme for 4 years.  I have undertaken training in PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), NAS Earlybird, Parent child interaction therapy (Hanen approach) and 'Time out for Parents' training programme.  My specialist area of interest is ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and I have experience working as part of a multidisciplinary Autism Assessment team.

I have been qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist for over 25 years. I am a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with a wealth of experience working with adults, young people and children with Special Educational Needs. I have specialised in ASD for over 18 years and am experienced in the diagnosis of ASD as well as providing specialist intervention and support for those with ASD as well as training for families, carers and professionals.   I have undertaken training in PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) , NAS Early bird programme and the TEACCH programme. I am also ADOS trained and have been involved in local service design and delivery. I am committed to the children and families I work with and am excited to have further opportunities to support those living with ASD and additional needs.

I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist from Ulster University in Northern Ireland in 2020. Since this time, I have been working for four years as a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist within the NHS.

I have experience supporting children with a wide range of needs that include Developmental Language Disorder, Autism, Complex Learning Needs and Speech Sound Disorder. I have additional training in Makaton, intensive interaction, Parent child interaction therapy (Hanen approach), Palin PCI training (Stammering) and The Curiosity Programme (Attention Autism). 

I enjoy finding the individual strengths and interests of each child I work with, and supporting them to achieve their full potential. My favourite part of being a speech and language therapist, is when I see positive changes in families’ lives.

Charlie qualified from Newcastle University in 2018 and has worked clinically in the NHS for 6 years. Currently working as Clinical Lead for Speech Sound Disorders and Cleft in the NHS alongside running the Specialist Speech Clinic at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Charlie is passionate about research and evidence based practice in the field of Speech Sound Disorders. Charlie has a published research paper, “Does the Duration and Frequency of Dummy Use Impact Speech Sound Development” (Strutt et al. 2021), recently contributed to the updating of the RCSLT Clinical Guidance for Speech Sound Disorders through the project reference group and sits on the committee for the London Speech Disorders Clinical Excellence Network. Charlie is Bilingual, speaking Spanish fluently and has a keen interest in the assessment and treatment of Speech Sound Disorders in a bilingual context.

 I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in South Africa and have worked in both South Africa and the UK.  I have worked in the NHS and independent practice, with children aged between 0-18 years with a wide variety of diagnoses.  I completed my sensory-integrated training in South Africa and have done my 8-week Bobath training and advanced Bobath in babies.  I recently completed a post-graduate certificate at Oxford Brooks in complex postural management.  I am passionate about helping children to participate actively in all areas of their lives.
